Niklas, a surgeon who lives a life of solitude and is tormented by self hatred, performs regular illegal surgeries for the red market. He works together with Mia, a young prostitute who lures her clients in and drugs them. Niklas is looking for a way out of this dark world, but owes his life to their violent crime boss Ed, who would rather kill him then let him go.
Directed by Branko Tomovic who studied acting at the prestigious Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute in New York and was first seen on the big screen in the lead role of the award winning American Film Institute/Sundance drama ‘Remote Control’ for which he received the OmU-Award at the Potsdam Film Festival. Branko’s first film won many international awards, including a nomination for a Student Academy Award.
He is based in London and has worked with internationally respected film directors as Ken Loach, Paul Greengrass, Soenke Wortmann, David Ayer and Pete Travis to name a few. Recent screen credits include ’24: Live Another Day’, ‘Fury’, ‘City of Tiny Lights’, ‘Entity’ and ‘The Bourne Ultimatum’. He has been named One to watch by Moviescope Magazine and chosen by leading international men’s fashion magazine Icon as one of five rising stars. He was honored by The British Filmmakers Alliance as Best International Actor and won numerous awards and nominations on the international film festival circuit, including London Independent Film Festival, British Horror Film Festival, San Francisco Short Film Festival and Philadelphia Film Festival.
Red is Branko’s debut as a film director.
