2014 Guest Speaker – James Gallagher

James Gallagher is an American Film Director who lives in Venice, California because he likes the weather on the Westside and his roommate, and best friend from highschool, is giving him an incredible deal. He started working in the camera department because he wanted to make movies and figured that was as good a place as any to start. He worked on Adam Sandler films under cinematographers, Brandon Trost and Dean Cundey.  Then jumped ship, and worked as a director’s assistant for Stuart Blumberg on Thanks for Sharing and most recently, Richard LaGravenese on The Last 5 Years.

As a cinematographer, Gallagher shot Kristen Stewart’s directorial debut, music video, “Take Me to the South” and Amanda Demme’s music video for Rain Phoenix and Balthazar Getty’s song “Monster” and an upcoming commercial for Madeworn.

As a director, Gallagher directed several plays, short films, and two acclaimed web series, “New Partner” with Josh Margolin, Quinn Beswick, Nick Searcy, Wayne Knight, Sasha Spielberg and Josh Fadem, and the web series “Chloe and Zoe,” which recently sold as a pilot to MTV.

Gallagher co-wrote, with Jack Henry Robbins, the feature film, “Ultimate, Ultimate” which was adapted for television and picked up by Comedy Central.

As a writer/director, Gallagher has completed several short films,  “Boy Leroy” and “Tommy Quit Smoking” and most recently, the short film, “The Oven”, written by Rebecca Gleason and starring Skylar Astin, Anna Camp, and Chris Messina, which is a kind romance between two people who refuse to leave their driveway until their radio helps solves their woes.
